Top things to consider when designing your dream Monkeywood Kitchen

When Designing Your Dream Kitchen these are the top things to consider…

1 – Kitchen Triangle

Traditionally kitchen designers and architects have used the triangle theory when designing layouts taking into consideration the Cooker/ stove, Sink, Fridge/ freezer. However more recently trends have veered in the direction of spacious open plan designs which don’t always lend themselves to the triangle theory. Whether you dream of a traditional shaker kitchen or a contemporary space, there are a lot of things to take into consideration.

Before making any big decisions take some time to think about how you like to cook in the kitchen or what your current kitchen is lacking.

At Monkeywood everything is totally bespoke and hand made by our skilled cabinet makers, we’ve never failed in making customers visions become a reality.

We try to design our kitchens in zones, this helps to keep the space tidy and ensures that every item has its place. For example, by putting the bin, sink and dishwasher in a line it works perfectly for the scrape, rinse and load method. Breakfast cupboards are becoming increasingly popular, they are great for keeping those small appliances tidy and hidden behind closed doors, plus they double up as a drinks station with many people using this space for coffee machines.

2 – The Clean Up

Whilst it’s not always the most glamorous part of the kitchen, bin space needs to be taken into consideration. Make sure that this is close enough to the food prep area so that you don’t have to walk across the room. Bins are always best to be built into a cupboard and out of direct eyesight.

We like to build in a separate, easy to access space for cleaning products and bin bags located closely alongside the bin.

3 – Sufficient Storage

Think logically about this. Even look at your current cupboards after your weekly shop – you can never have too much storage. There are so many options on the market for space saving storage solutions – you have no excuse, from magic corner cupboards to carousels and so much more. Mostly it still comes down to working zones and having things to hand where you need them. A large larder cupboard can store almost all dry food if it is designed properly. Spice racks on doors or smaller pull-out cupboards are always a great space saving idea. Speak to your designer, they will be able to advise on how best to utilize your space.

This is a big one when Designing Your Dream Kitchen. Make sure you do your homework on this one, the appliances you pick can make life so much easier. Speak to the professionals designing and building your bespoke kitchen, they will be able to advise on the best way to fit these appliances in to your space. Budget can play a part in appliances but there are good quality products to fit all purse sizes.

Whilst looking at appliances don’t forget to check out the must have new appliances for all kitchens. The Boiling tap, Here at Monkeywood we love a Quooker tap, and these in our opinion are the best of the best. They look great and, in most cases, (if you have more than one cuppa a day) are far more efficient than boiling the kettle.
